Job Purpose/Summary:



The Poultry Welfare Tech II is entrusted to improve the welfare of the animals in our care. This will be accomplished through effective training, transparent communication, astute observation, and completion of animal welfare audits across Tyson Foods' poultry complexes. The objective is to ensure Tyson poultry operations comply with good commercial practices, customer requirements, and governmental standards in our live operations and processing facilities.



Essential Duties and Responsibilities
(frequency and selection of tasks may vary depending upon position/location):



  • Promoting animal welfare culture throughout Tyson live operations through education and engagement.


  • Managing external suppler program.


  • Conducting animal welfare and biosecurity audits, and other certification audits for live production facilities including transportation and handling audits; scope of responsibility includes all aspects of live operations where animal welfare is evaluated.


  • Conducting unannounced audits during times outside of a normal day shift where animals are present.


  • Analyzing internal animal welfare data for trends and sharing with team to drive continuous improvement.


  • Ensuring implementation of associated audit recommendations; creating and distributing and communicating audit reports to management.


  • Ensuring compliance with all company, customer, and governmental standards.


  • Identifying welfare-related risks and opportunities.


  • Collaborating with business leaders, i.e., complex and plant management, to identify solutions and resolve issues.


  • Provide verification for PHT training.


  • Providing technical support and assistance with Tyson's CARE and FarmCheck® programs.


  • Managing and assisting in executing external supplier customer requirements, i.e., audit requests, Key Weekly Indicators (KWI) collection, where applicable.


  • Advising producers regarding building and equipment specifications, litter manipulation and farm sanitation.


  • Farm visits include documenting bird comfort, management of the flock and equipment settings, directing feed and light schedules, monitoring birds' health, body weight and providing remedy when possible.


  • Monitoring feed consumption, pulling blood and fat samples on time when required. Coordinating bird placements on the farms and helping with catch schedules and handling at catch.


  • Ensuring communication between hatchery feedmill, and livehaul as it pertains to their contract farms.


  • Verifying producers and company are in compliance with the production contract to produce flocks of the highest quality and lowest cost.


  • Ensuring all USDA and other government regulations are followed.


  • Working with the Broiler and Breeder Hatchery Departments in coordinating weekly chick placements.


  • May supervise Tech 1 positions and be expected to lead meetings.


  • Ensure all USDA, No Antibiotics Intended for Human Medicine (NAIHM), and other government regulations are followed in the production of broilers.


  • Work directly with equipment companies to ensure efficient layout of equipment.


  • Perform other responsibilities as needed.





Requirements:




Education: Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience preferred.



Experience: Minimum of 2 years of previous relevant Tyson Foods' experience in live animal production preferred.



Skills:

Computer Skills: Experience with Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, required. Experience with Enablon and PowerBI, preferred.



Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills.



Additional Requirements: Thorough knowledge of live production, biosecurity, food safety, animal welfare and handling standards. Ability to perform data analysis and reporting. Professional Animal Auditor Certification Organization (PAACO) certification or eligibility and commitment to obtain certification within 12 months, required.



Travel: 1 to 5 trips per year. Must be able to travel daily to various locations in the poultry complex (farms, hatcheries, and offices) and work on all production shifts.
