POSITION TITLE: Home-School Liaison
CLASSIFICATION: Nonexempt
DEPARTMENT: Education
SUPERVISOR: Education Program Manager
GRADE: NE7
Position Summary:
Under general direction of the Education Program Manager monitors the social, behavioral, extra curricular activities, attendance and academic status of Santa Ana students who reside on the Santa Ana Reservation.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Works with principals, counselors, teachers, family members and others associated with a student regarding their social, behavioral, extra curricular activities, attendance and academic status. Visits classrooms to observe student behavior, student learning and teacher-student relationships. Makes home visits or contacts parents through phone calls, letters or emails regarding their childs status in school. Coordinates and attends meetings with parental permission at the school or at the tribal level. Works with appropriate social agencies on a referral basis to address students needs as necessary. Makes visits to Santa Ana students attending Albuquerque area school. Informs parents and students about school policies, requirements and procedures as needed. Maintains documentation of all students. Submits monthly reports on the status of students and programs provided. Assists in the planning, organization and implementation of language and culture, and after school and summer education program and activities. Maintains professional and technical knowledge by conducting research; attending seminars, educational workshops, classes, and conferences; and reviewing professional publications Contributes to a team effort and accomplishes related results as required. Performs other duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications:
Associate degree in education plus three years work experience in education is required; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must be able to successfully pass a pre-employment drug/alcohol screen and background investigation including a motor vehicle check. Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico drivers license and be insurable under the Pueblos insurance.
Knowledge, Abilities, Skills, and Certifications:
Knowledge of applicable federal, state, county and local laws, regulations, and requirements. Knowledge, appreciation, and understanding of Santa Ana traditions, language, history, and culture. Knowledge and understanding of adult and youth learning principles, and of a wide range of training methods, techniques, and formats. Knowledge of curriculum development and preparation procedures. Skill in operating various word-processing, spreadsheets, and database software programs in a Windows environment. Ability to exercise independent judgment. Ability to design, develop, implement, and evaluate training plans, curricula, and methodology. Ability to interact well with individuals from a wide range of ages and skill levels. Ability to interact and maintain good working relationships with individuals of varying social and cultural backgrounds. Ability to interpret applicable federal, state, county and local laws, regulations, and requirements. Ability to maintain confidentiality. Ability to work independently and meet strict timelines. Ability to communicate efficiently and effectively both verbally and in writing. Ability to become certified in Suicide Training, Defensive Driving and Food Handling Safety.
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly is required to stand; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to walk; and reach with hands and arms. The employee occasionally is required to climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
Work Environment:
Work is generally performed in an office setting with a low noise level. Evening and/or weekend work may be required. There is frequent interaction with children, the public and employees.
