Your Role: Director – API Manufacturing

Lead and manage the operations of Clinton - Product Finishing operations. The director leads the activities needed to optimize the finishing processes, including compliance, cost management, and process control issues. This role will be responsible for capacity management for three products produced solely at Clinton and for participating as member of a capacity planning global network for products produced at multiple sites. The director is responsible for direct supervision of up to 10 employees and has a total staff of approximately 50 employees.

Your Responsibilities:


  • Safety & Environmental - Enhance safety awareness and accountability within the Product Finishing staff and establish ownership of the safety culture. Strive for continuous improvement in safety.  Ensure safety is an integral part of each task performed within the operation’s area.


  • Quality - Work with quality unit to assure GMP requirements are fully integrated into daily work activities. Ensure understanding throughout operations and technical support organization of applicable GMPs.  Oversee compliance to established policies and procedures and proper and thorough documentation, investigation, verification and future elimination of quality incidents.  Evaluate management quality systems as they apply to Product Finishing operations and implement improvements as needed.


  • Developing People - Ensure performance management plans are developed for each direct report and for the entire department.  Conduct interim and year-end reviews for direct reports.  Provide quality coaching and mentoring.  Provide career counseling. Responsible for any HR issues. Further enhance the diversity of the product finishing workforce through future job fill actions.


  • Manage the Business - Develop and manage annual product finishing business plan (headcount/expenses/capacity allocation).  Develop and manage capital plan and take responsibility for conformance to conduct of maintenance processes.  Provide leadership for establishing and reaching objectives such as productivity goals, supply chain certification, and asset utilization.  Identify opportunities for optimizing organization’s effectiveness.  Collaborate with QA, TSMS, and Engineering. leadership to ensure that operations are in a continual state of compliance and improvement.


  • Reliability/Capability - Support animal health business unit objectives by aligning department goals and objectives.  Establish process and quality indicators for all services provided, and continue sponsorship of process teams to assure operations are in control and capable.  Evaluate product finishing’s performance vs. customer requirements and make adjustments to priorities as appropriate.


What You Need to Succeed (minimum qualifications):


  • Education: BS or MS in technical discipline (i.e. engineering, chemistry, etc.).


  • Required Experience: A minimum of five years working in a manufacturing environment with 2 years leadership experience minimum.


  • Top Skills: General knowledge of pharmaceutical unit operations and experience in a FDA GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) or USDA regulated environment; recognized leadership skills in project administration and other areas of team activity (cross-functional team leadership, participation, etc.)


What will give you a competitive edge (preferred qualifications): 


  • Must have good computer skills and understand how to effectively use PI, SAP, Veeva Vault, and software programs such as Word, Excel, etc.


  • Leadership of teams within a manufacturing environment and track record of increasing scope, complexity, and responsibility


  • Proven track record of leadership assignments in a regulated, manufacturing environment; must have excellent people skills, especially mentoring/coaching.


  • Communicate effectively (verbal, listening, writing) with all levels of personnel throughout the site. Recognized leadership skills in project administration and other areas of team activity (cross-functional team leadership, participation, etc.).


  • Ability to solve problems using data and make decisions independently.

  • This position is 8-hour days but is responsible for a 24-hour operation.
