Job Description:

The Department of Religious Studies at Claremont McKenna College (CMC) invites applications for a tenure-track position at the early assistant professor level in African-American/African Religions. The position will begin on July 1, 2025. The successful candidate is expected to hold a Ph.D. by the time of the appointment.

The successful applicant will teach courses in African-American/African Religions, with desireable subfields including (but not limited to) religion and politics, transnationalism, women and religion, and/or religions of Africa in the diaspora. The teaching load is two courses per semester. The candidate must have demonstrated the ability to maintain an active, high-quality research program and the highest standards of excellence in teaching.

Approximate annual salary range:

$90,0000 - $105,0000

Applications should include a cover letter; curriculum vitae; research statement; teaching statement that addresses the candidates ability to teach, mentor, and inspire students representing a broad range of backgrounds; evidence of teaching effectiveness; and a writing sample. Complete applications, including letters of recommendation, will be reviewed beginning September 6, 2024. The review of complete applications will continue until the position is filled. Preliminary interviews will be conducted via Zoom in early October 2024.
