Background
Wellesley College has a long history of providing an excellent liberal arts undergraduate education for women. The College, established in 1870, has a student body of 2,400 undergraduates. The Wellesley College endowment had a market value of $2.9 billion as of the fiscal year ended June 30, 2023. Investment of the endowment is managed by the Investment Office, located on campus in Wellesley, MA.
Position Summary
The Investment Operations Director role is a full-time position open to individuals with 10 plus years of relevant experience, including supervisory experience. Team members must live in the area but have the option to work remotely two days a week. The Investment Operations Director is an integral member of the operations team and interacts regularly with other members of the investment team. The position will report to the Chief Investment Officer.
Specific portfolio administration and operational duties include but are not limited to:
Cash Activity and Analysis:
Review bank instructions for cash movements.
Monitor and reconcile cash flow activity.
Prepare cash flow projections and analysis of cash need.
Process endowment related transfers to/from the College
Data Management:
Ensure that the portfolio management systems for the investment portfolio are regularly maintained.
Maintain liquidity management system.
Finalize accounting and performance reports.
Ensure portfolio activity between systems is accurate.
Financial Reporting and Portfolio Analysis:
Prepare portfolio reporting for investment committee meetings.
Prepare regular rebalancing analysis and liquidity analysis for the portfolio.
Monitor benchmark results.
Lead the audit process.
includes preparing and reviewing audit confirmations, audit work papers and supporting schedules; prepare summary financial statement schedules.
Work with KPMG on the College's exposure to excise tax.
Manager Diligence, Legal and Other:
Manage operational due diligence reviews and background checks.
Complete subscription, amendment and side letter agreements.
Prepare regular survey responses to outside organizations.
Perform other duties and ad-hoc projects as assigned.
Participate in Management Committee meetings
Contribute to analysis and discussion of portfolio rebalancing.
Contribute to analysis and discussion of cash management.
Qualifications
The Investment Operations Director must demonstrate the desire to learn and grow as an investment operations professional, be able to evaluate and resolve operational issues and keep up to date on the latest market news, industry practices and technology applications.
