Job Description:

Fracture Control Engineer Kennedy Space Center - Merritt Island, FL. Aegis Aerospace has been selected by NASA to provide insight, surveillance, systems engineering, analysis, and mission operations support services to the Deep Space Logistics (DSL) Project at the agency's Kennedy Space Center in Florida.
Under the Deep Space Logistics Engineering Support (LENS) contract, our employees will provide engineering support to NASA to review and assess activities of the Gateway Logistics Services (GLS) IDIQ Contract Commercial Service Provider. This effort may include the review and assessment of the requirements, design, analysis, testing, manufacturing, verification, validation, assembly, integration, checkout, mission preparations and operations required to deliver cargo and payloads to the lunar Gateway, or for other DSL mission projects and interests. Responsibilities: The Senior Fracture Control Engineer for Spaceflight Hardware will:
  • Evaluate compliance of flight hardware against established fracture control requirements.
  • Review Gateway Logistic Module Data packages to ensure the Logistic Module is meeting NASA Fracture Control requirements.
  • Provide expertise in fracture control processes as used in the design, development, test, evaluation and processing of aerospace hardware.
  • Advise on the solution of fracture control related problems.
  • Participate in technical reviews as required.
  • Participate in the effort of identifying anomalies and serves as a technical expert providing engineering recommendations, as required for resolution of any associated problems or issues.
  • Perform other duties as required.
Required Experience:
  • BS degree in engineering from an accredited engineering school and ten (10) years of direct engineering experience, or a MS degree from an accredited engineering school and eight (8) years of direct engineering experience, or Ph.D. and four (4) years of direct engineering experience.
  • Understanding of NASA Standards and requirements for fracture control processes and standards.
  • General knowledge of engineering materials (metals, intermetallics, ceramics, polymers, and composites) as well as a basic understanding of engineering systems (fasteners, pressure vessels, etc.) and Non-destructive Evaluation (NDE) techniques.
  • Ability to effectively utilize oral and written communication to express technical concepts and recommendations to personnel at all technical and managerial levels.
  • Ability to work effectively, rationally and quickly in real-time environments of rapid-change, conflicting requirements, and occasional pressure.
Preferred Experience:
  • Extensive knowledge in Fracture Classification and experience and evidence of NASA Program support in this area.
  • In-depth knowledge of fracture control as it relates to implementation of fracture control requirements on spaceflight hardware, and a good understanding of the risks associated with Fracture Classifications.
  • Familiar with NASGRO.
  • Fracture Mechanics knowledge is helpful but not necessary.
