Job Description:

Senior Materials & Processes Engineer Kennedy Space Center - Merritt Island, FL. Aegis Aerospace has been selected by NASA to provide insight, surveillance, systems engineering, analysis, and mission operations support services to the Deep Space Logistics (DSL) Project at the agency's Kennedy Space Center in Florida.
Under the Deep Space Logistics Engineering Support (LENS) contract, our employees will provide engineering support to NASA to review and assess activities of the Gateway Logistics Services (GLS) IDIQ Contract Commercial Service Provider. This effort may include the review and assessment of the requirements, design, analysis, testing, manufacturing, verification, validation, assembly, integration, checkout, mission preparations and operations required to deliver cargo and payloads to the lunar Gateway, or for other DSL mission projects and interests. Responsibilities:
  • Advise, guide, and provide consultation on Materials & Processes requirements for Deep Space spacecraft environments, including materials selection, process control and qualification, design for corrosion prevention, flammability, toxic offgassing, and processes specification.
  • Provide input to program/project specifications and ensure appropriate materials requirements are incorporated into all program/project specifications at the right level.
  • Review project/program documentation and specifications to ensure NASA standards are met with regard to Materials and Processes used in in spaceflight hardware.
  • Assess whether standard Logistic Module providers processes meet M&P requirements, and if not, clearly define changes that need to be implemented.
  • Provide Logistic Module Providers with recommendations for qualification and acceptance testing that will properly satisfy verification of requirements.
  • Provide inspection and manufacturing process support for human space flight system.
  • Other duties as required.
Required Experience:
  • BS degree in Engineering in any of the following fields: Metallurgical, Mechanical, Chemical Engineering, Ceramic, or Materials Science from an ABET accredited engineering school and a minimum of seven (7) years of related engineering experience, or a MS degree from an accredited engineering school and five (5) years of related engineering experience, or Ph.D. from an accredited engineering school and three (3) years of related experience.
  • Must have excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to critically assess manufacturing/material processes and designs, and work in a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Knowledge of NASA standards and material data requirements for spaceflight hardware.
  • Be familiar with metallic and nonmetallic materials specifications, properties, testing and additive manufacturing.
  • Familiarity with desktop software applications, MS Office is required.
  • Must be able to complete a U.S. government background investigation.
  • Management has the prerogative to select at any level for which the position is advertised.
Preferred experience:
  • Previous experience supporting Materials and Processes development, test, and evaluation for NASA and/or Aerospace projects.
  • Experience with human space flight system engineering and integration practices.
