Job title: Design Center Consultant / Customer Relations

Department: Preconstruction

Reports to: Operations Manager

Job overview:

The Design Center Consultant is focused on assisting and guiding the client through the selection

process of a new home. Through a series of meetings, the consultant directs a sequential path based on

the different areas of the home - for example, the exterior, the kitchen, the bathrooms and so on. Once

all selections have been made the Design Consultant works with the Starts Manager to assemble all

building documents and will attend to the client's questions, needs, and other communication through

the completion of the home.

This position is considered a full-time, salaried, office job and as such requires a minimum of 40 hours

per week on-premises at the Symphony Homes office. As a general rule, office hours are to be

maintained from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm allowing for a 1 hour lunch break. Based on company workloads,

working hours in excess of 50 hours per week, or more, may be required and are not considered

overtime.

Responsibilities:
• When notified by the Structural Manager, schedule the first design appointment and,

subsequently all remaining appointments with strong emphasis on maintaining the established

deadlines set forth in the New Construction Agreement
• Explain and guide the design process for the client - this includes beginning with an overview of

what to expect in each meeting and providing instruction on how to come prepared to maximize

the productivity during the design meetings
• Provide a strong, professional image through dress, demeanor, dialog, and creative ideas
• Reinforce the deadlines set forth in the NCA at the conclusion of each meeting
• As the client makes selections or inquiries, provide pricing by means of the Design Center

Addendum for the client's review and approval. Unless otherwise established, pricing should be

provided with one week
• After the client's selections are completed and pricing is provided, obtain client approval

through signing the Design Center Addendum and notifying the Starts Manager
• Provide the redlined cabinet drawings to the cabinet fabricator immediately upon the Design

Center Addendum approval. Establish a clear deadline for receipt of the revisions to correspond

with the Final Documents (below)
• Work with the Starts Manager through the assembly of the Final Documents to be presented to

the clients after all information and revisions have been made
• Obtain client approval through signing the Final Documents and notify the Starts Manager of

this approval whereupon the Start Pack will be assembled and distributed to Construction and

all other parties. Signed Final Cabinet Specs and Layout must be incorporated into the Final

Documents for the Start Pack to be considered complete
• Schedule the Ready to Start Meeting with the clients once construction has received the Start

Pack
• Utilizing the Ready to Start Meeting talking points, meet with and review the expectations

pertaining to the process of construction. Inform the client that all communication is to be

directed to the Design Consultant during the course of construction
• Once notified by the Construction Manager, schedule the Electrical Walkthrough with the clients

and the Project Manager
• Attend the Electrical Walkthrough with the clients and the Project Manager to note changes

discussed, assist in clarifying details in the Final Documents pertinent to this stage of

construction, provide pricing and obtain approval for any changes and prices chosen by the

client
• Scan, copy, and upload redlines, Change Orders or other pertinent documents to the designated

online folders
• Schedule the Customer Service Orientation (does not require attendance)
• Supplementary responsibilities as assigned based on circumstantial needs

Qualifications, ongoing training and other job requirements:
• Continuously augment product knowledge through both formal and informal opportunities to

receive training and updated information
• Strong understanding of general kitchen design both in function/assembly and aesthetics
