Position Summary:
The Project Program Specialist is responsible for accounting functions, performing a wide variety of fiscal related tasks within the Controller's Office, and for researching financial data and preparing reports. This position is governed by Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, state and federal laws, and agency/institution policy
Duties & Responsibilities:
Prepares monthly sales tax report
Posts transactions to journals and/or ledgers, balances entries, and reconciles errors manually or electronically
Reconciles internal University accounts
Reviews bank transfers and wires; issues stop payments on checks as requested
Prepares financial reports
Assists with various accounting projects and research
Oversees the annual unclaimed property process
Assists with fiscal monthly and year end closing
Other duties as assigned
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Experienced in reconciling high volume accounts
Proficient Excel skills are necessary
Knowledge of accounting principles, software applications, Banner or a related large scale ERP system, applicable laws, regulations, and policies of assigned section, and customer service techniques
Ability to comprehend and assimilate technical and business related documents, apply policies and procedures and other applicable regulations associated with assigned department or program, conduct research, perform quantitative quality assurance reviews, and prepare reports
Stay organized, multi-task, pay close attention to details, and effectively communicate both verbally and written
General Days/Hours:
Monday - Friday 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Additional hours as requested and/or needed Regular and reliable attendance

Preferred Qualifications: Master's Degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field is encouraged, but not required
