The Large Power Systems Division currently has an opening for an Engineering Manager to lead our Aftertreatment & Exhaust Systems (AT&ES) performance engineering team. As the Engineering Manager for AT&ES performance team, you will be the design control owner for critical core aftertreatment components across Caterpillar's Large Engine product lines for diesel, natural gas, and alternative fuel engines. This role will give you the opportunity to help meet the EPA Tier 5 regulations by creating new and innovative aftertreatment design solutions. With your help, our products will continue to significantly reduce harmful diesel and gas engine exhaust emissions.

Job summary:

As the Engineering Manager, you will inspire, lead, and develop a team of talented engineers as they develop and validate components and technologies aligned to New Product Introduction (NPI) and New Technology Introduction (NTI) programs. Additionally, you will provide leadership to drive process improvements and collaboration across Engineering, Quality, Purchasing, Operations, and Supply Chain process partners and will manage the performance component strategy to deliver world class quality and cost. This role will collaborate closely with internal partners at our Pontiac Manufacturing Facility, Engine Performance Center, Emissions Regulatory Compliance, and our China engineering team. Your ability to master this role will ensure that we can deliver on our promise to build a better world!

What you will do:

  • Design control owner for aftertreatment core components (substrates, DEF pumps, controllers, etc)
  • Leadership and development of design engineering team
  • Managing annual budget for design control
  • Delivering NPI, NTI, NSI, CPI, and Cost Reduction programs to time, cost, and quality targets
  • Refining and progressing component and technology strategies for design control
  • Active engagement with the Supplier Development and Purchasing teams to develop and manage sourcing strategies and supplier capability to meet quality and cost targets
  • Working closely with Technical Steward on the development of standard work
Degree Requirement:

Bachelor's degree in engineering discipline and professional engineering experience

Skills you must have:

Planning: Tactical, Strategic: Level Extensive Experience:

Knowledge of effective planning techniques and ability to contribute to operational (short term), tactical (1-2 years) and strategic (3-5 years) planning in support of the overall business plan.

Effective Communications: Level Extensive Experience:

Understanding of effective communication concepts, tools and techniques; ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs through the application of appropriate communication behaviors.

Technical Excellence: Level Extensive Experience:

Knowledge of a given technology and various application methods; ability to develop and

provide solutions to significant technical challenges.

Customer/Market Focus: Level Extensive Experience:

Understanding of the importance of remaining aware of shifting market priorities and ability to respond to internal and external customer needs in a manner that consistently adds value.

Managing People: Level Extensive Experience:

Knowledge of processes involved in managing people; ability to lead successful teams, and diligently address issues related to performance and conflicts at the workplace.

Project Management: Level Extensive Experience:

Knowledge of effective project management strategies and tactics; ability to plan, organize,

monitor, and control projects, ensuring efficient utilization of technical and administrative resources to achieve project objectives.

Top candidates will also have:
  • Master's degree in Engineering discipline
  • Progressive, professional leadership experience
  • Design experience
  • Simulation experience
  • Engine performance and/or aftertreatment experience
Additional Information:
  • This position is located in Mossville, IL and will split time between the Tech Center and AC offices.
  • This position may require less than 15% travel
