Job Description Summary:
The City of Columbia is seeking a dynamic Technical Trainer to join our Information Technology team. In this role, you will play a pivotal part in developing and delivering training programs that empower our workforce to master the latest technologies and tools. You will assess training needs, create instructional materials, and ensure that our staff remains proficient in evolving IT practices. As a Technical Trainer, you’ll collaborate with the IT Help Desk to resolve training-related queries, enabling employees to maximize their productivity with technology.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement comprehensive IT training programs to enhance workforce skills.
  • Set clear learning objectives and adapt training for different learning styles to maximize retention.
  • Stay updated on the latest technological advancements to ensure training reflects evolving standards.
  • Provide professional and positive interactions with all city employees, stakeholders, and the public.
  • Analyze and assess training outcomes using evaluation metrics.
  • Support the IT Help Desk by addressing training-related IT issues and inquiries.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and records of training programs, attendance, and certifications earned.

Qualifications:

  • Education:
    • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Public Administration, or a related field is required.
  • Experience:
    • 1 to 3 years of experience in a similar role developing and delivering IT training programs.
  • Licenses/Certifications:
    • Valid driver’s license required.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Proficient in MS Office Suite, Google G Suite, and Windows Operating Systems.
  • Knowledge of teaching strategies, classroom instruction techniques, and curriculum design.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage time effectively, handle stressful situations, and provide excellent customer service.
  • Skilled in conducting research, analyzing data, and developing training materials.
  • Capable of creating detailed reports and performing statistical analysis to measure training effectiveness.

Work Environment:

  • Indoor Environment: Primarily office-based with occasional work in warehouse and shop environments.
  • Physical Demands: Sedentary work, with occasional lifting of up to 10 pounds. Sitting, typing, and working on a computer will be required for most of the day. Reasonable accommodations can be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

Work Hours:

  • Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
