For this assignment, candidates referred should possess the following background:
1. Education -- A minimum of twenty-four (24) semester units (36 quarter units) in chemistry is required which must include the following courses: general chemistry, analytical chemistry, organic chemistry, analytical methods, and the applicable laboratory sections. Courses in instrumentation, mathematics (at the calculus level), statistics and introduction to data processing are desirable. The most competitive candidates will also have a bachelor's degree in chemistry or similar field.
2. Experience - Laboratory experience is highly desired. Candidates with the most directly-related or transferable experience will be given highest consideration.
