Approximately 60% of this role will oversee coordination and implementation of stewardship activities on three preserves and two conservation easements in Southwest Oregon including the maintenance, management, development, and coordination of on-the-ground work, such as fire operations, invasive species control, infrastructure management, monitoring, data management, coordination of public access, and maintenance of tools & equipment. Through this work, the Southwest Oregon Preserves and Forest Projects Manager will pursue the development of cross-cultural, co-stewardship partnerships, particularly with Tribes and Indigenous people to increase and formalize preserve access and stewardship opportunities.
The other 40% of this role will provide organizational and technical capacity needed by long-standing forest restoration partnerships and newly emerging forest collaborative groups in this region that bring together diverse organizations to work together to develop shared vision and agreement guiding science-based forest restoration. These groups, such as the Rogue Forest Partners, Klamath Siskiyou Oak Network, and the Southern Oregon Forest Restoration Collaborative, rely on the capacity of partner organizations, such as TNC for our science and technical capacity, ability to plan, organize, and convene meetings, and support ongoing programmatic needs of these community-based groups that play a central role in planning, implementing, and monitoring restoration treatments on public and private fire-adapted dry forests across Southwest Oregon.
In all this work, the Southwest Oregon Preserves and Forest Projects Manager pursues strategic opportunities to advance TNC preserve stewardship and proactive dry forest restoration outcomes and partnerships with Tribes and Indigenous people to reclaim access and management authority in their homeland.
Southwest Oregon, within the Klamath Siskiyou Mountains, is a landscape rich in ecological biodiversity and a unique social, cultural, and political history. It is also home to some of the most at-risk ecosystems and human communities in Oregon, which face increasingly severe natural disturbances compounded by a rapidly changing climate. It is here that TNC is bridging its expertise in collaborative engagement, forest and fire science, and land management to advance land preserve stewardship, forest restoration and conservation, fire management, and Tribal partnerships. TNC has a long history working in and stewarding lands in Southwest Oregon, and our efforts to restore dry, fire-adapted forests in this geography is a high priority in the Oregon Strategic Plan and TNC's Western Dry Forests and Fire Program.
The Southwest Oregon Preserves and Forest Projects Manager collaborates with a wide range of local, state, federal, Tribal, and NGO partners to support, plan, implement, and monitor stewardship and forest restoration activities in service of TNC and partner strategic priorities. This position will also lead relationship and project management at the Table Rocks Preserve, a site with immense potential for co-stewardship with area Tribes and Indigenous communities. In this work you will collaborate with TNC teams and local partners to actively support ongoing collaborative projects that increase Tribal access and co-stewardship, meet the management goals on TNC preserves, and advance our shared interests in healthy, fire-maintained forests.
This position will be based in Southwest Oregon with options to work in the Ashland office or a hybrid of Ashland office and home office (which must be located in the Ashland / Medford area). This position may work in variable weather conditions, at remote locations, on difficult and hazardous terrain and under physically demanding circumstances.

The starting pay range for a candidate selected for this position is generally within the range of $56,240 - $59,755 for annual base salary. This range only applies to candidates whose country of employment is the USA. Where a successful candidate's actual pay will fall within this range will be based on a variety of factors, including, for example, the candidate's location, qualifications, specific skills, and experience. Please note countries outside the USA would have a different pay range in the local currency based on the local labor market, and not tied to USA pay or ranges.
