Position Overview
We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Food Safety and Quality Assurance Specialist to support our Supplier Compliance program. The ideal candidate will assist product supplier and processor/manufacturer compliance initiatives, ensuring adherence to applicable regulations and AFCFC's standards. This role involves handling a high volume of documentation for incoming and existing suppliers and ingredients.
Key Responsibilities
Review vendor documents such as supplier questionnaires, product specification sheets, letter of guarantees, certifications, HACCP plans, environmental monitoring programs, and third-party audits.
Support the collection and management of documents for incoming and existing suppliers and ingredients, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
Collaborate with internal teams on retail label reviews for new product launches and existing products.
Review product labels to ensure compliance with FDA and CFIA regulations and verify the accuracy of ingredient and allergen statements with regards to formulation and ingredient specifications.
Prioritize a high volume of documentation with an emphasis on organization, strong sense of urgency, and attention to detail.
Maintain accurate and up-to-date records in compliance with company standards.
Support risk assessments and verification activities for suppliers, raw materials, and packaging.
Assist with developing supplier compliance programs, including supplier audits and reviewing food packaging, food equipment and utensils, and third-party storage and distribution centers to meet regulatory and company standards.
Collaborate with internal teams on product launches, providing FSQA support to ensure new products meet safety and quality standards from concept through commercialization.
Support ingredient studies, including shelf-life, challenge studies, microbial/chemical verifications, etc.
Conduct impact analyses of ingredients and products to assess regulatory changes and determine market suitability.
Maintain social responsibility and sustainability documentation, including Global Seafood Sustainability Initiative documents, in accordance with AFCFC and client standards.
Identify areas of non-compliance and recommend corrective actions.
Stay current with applicable regulations, science, and company standards.
Perform additional tasks as assigned to support the FSQA team and company objectives.
Qualifications & Skills:
Bachelor's degree in Food Science, Nutrition, Biology, or a related field.
Minimum of 1 year of work experience, or an equivalent combination of relevant coursework and experience in food safety, quality assurance, nutrition, pharmaceuticals, or related fields.
Knowledge of food safety, quality assurance, and food regulatory and label compliance.
