Close Date:

Description:

The Department of Medical Ethics and Health Policy at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania seeks candidates for several Assistant Professor positions in either the non-tenure clinician educator track or the tenure track. Expertise is required in the specific area of bioethics; areas of interest include (but are not limited to) ethical issues related to genetic and genomic medicine and health equity. Candidates with backgrounds in bioethics, philosophy, anthropology, sociology, political science, law, medicine, theology, medical humanities, or interdisciplinary methods are encouraged to apply. Experience with empirical bioethics methods - either quantitative or qualitative - is essential. Applicants must have an M.D. , Ph.D.,  J.D. or equivalent degree(s).

Teaching responsibilities may include courses in the Master of Bioethics program. Faculty have opportunities to mentor diverse graduate students, medical students, residents, clinical fellows, undergraduates, and postdoctoral trainees.

Research or scholarship responsibilities may include establishing an innovative and independent research program that includes publications in leading peer-reviewed journals and that can be supported with extramural funding from government agencies and private foundations. While both tenure and clinician-educator track faculty conduct methodological and collaborative research, tenure track faculty focus primarily on independent, investigator driven research while clinician-educator track faculty focus primarily on collaboration.

The position will be based in the Division of Medical Ethics, which is within the Department of Medical Ethics and Health Policy. The Division has faculty who are trained in philosophy, health policy, political science, medicine, anthropology, and law and who do research in a broad array of areas including research ethics, clinical ethics, genetics and genomics, neuroethics, mental health, conflicts of interest, and aging.
The successful applicant(s) for this position(s) will:
(1) Demonstrate their ability to develop and maintain a high-impact research program including extramurally funded projects;
(2) Increase the Department's instructional and research capacity in their areas of focus;
(3) Contribute to the Department's mission through collaboration with other faculty members, staff, and students.

We are committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion. We seek candidates who foster and share this commitment and who embrace and reflect diversity in the broadest sense. We strongly encourage candidates from groups that have been underrepresented in medicine and bioethics due to discrimination and structural barriers, who have experienced socioeconomic disadvantage, or who have disabilities to apply.

Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis, but full consideration will be given to applications received by November 1st, 2024.

We seek candidates who embrace and reflect diversity in the broadest sense. The University of Pennsylvania is an EOE. Minorities/women/individuals with disabilities/protected veterans are encouraged to apply.
