With minimal supervision, assists with all cath lab procedures including diagnostic and interventional caths and electrophysiology procedures. Able to meet all performance standards in scrub, panel and circulating positions. Responsible for patient and family education and support.
Essential Job Functions
• Supports and models behaviors consistent with the mission and philosophy of DBC and department/service.
• Scrub: Scrub assistant to the physician. Sets up and maintains the sterile field as well as arterial and venous lines. Positions patient while under the radiation beam to visualize cardiac anatomy, assists in catheter/wire manipulation, injects coronary arteries for the visualization of cardiac anatomy.
• Circulator: Monitors the patient condition and response to treatment pre, during and post procedure. Maintains proper documentation on cardiac cath lab assessment forms. Circulators need to have a basic knowledge of medications patients are receiving in the cath lab. Provides procedural education for patients and family. Safely transports patients to and from the cath lab. Verifies proper patient preparation pre-procedure. Gives and receives patient reports to the nursing units. Performs arterial/venous sheath removal. Able to operate and troubleshoot cath lab procedural equipment.
• Monitor/Record: Monitors patients throughout diagnostic and interventional procedures. Responsible for identifying changes in patient's rhythm and hemodynamic status. Responsible for accurate and thorough data collection, measurement and calculations. Performs angiographic analysis. Operates x-ray equipment, balancing quality imaging with radiation safety. Able to function independently with hemodynamic monitoring equipment which includes operations, troubleshooting and calibration. Completes patient charges. Functions as the primary person Ability to communicate with nursing units, OR and patient's families as needed. Responsible for documentation of any equipment problems during the procedure and contacting appropriate repair service.
• Informs management of any unusual concerns, situations or conditions relative to staff, patients and physicians.
• Identifies needs and sets goals for own growth and development; meets all mandatory organizational and departmental requirements. Maintains working knowledge of all products/procedures related to diagnostic and interventional caths and electrophysiology procedures.
• Maintains competency in all organizational, departmental and outside agency safety standards relevant to job performance.
• Communicates regularly with other staff regarding changes in the workflow schedule or physician protocol.
• Assists in identifying products needed (out of stock or new items) and helps restock and clean rooms.
• Performs other duties as assigned or needed to meet the needs of the department/organization. Utilizes non-procedure time in a constructive manner to benefit the department or organization.
