Position Summary:

The Quality Assurance (QA) Coordinator is the site expert responsible for product excellence in our West Jordan, UT operation at Quality Steel. The QA Coordinator is responsible for implementing strict compliance to ASME Code and Industry mandated product quality requirements. The QA Coordinator works across the operation with teams and leaders to identify areas of improvement and ensure compliance. The QA Coordinator is a key role supporting quality, continuous improvement and operations for the plant.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Represent the Voice of the Customer (VOC) for all site quality control activities.
  • Complete product/process assurance knowledge of:
  • ASME Code and customer requirements and processes/procedures
  • All related support functions including measurement tools/ equipment maintenance/ calibration, supplier material control, in-process product disposition/containment, product identification, quality documentation and control systems
  • Full compliance for site as specified in QA Manual responsibilities.
  • Import, reconcile and submit all completed vessel production for National Board approval, vessel certification.
  • Lead (participate / coordinate) product containment, corrective/preventive actions through follow up on Quality Alerts and plant-wide communications.
  • Utilize detailed inspection methods/techniques to improve process/product capability.
  • Participate in problem-solving teams and use Lean problem solving tools such as 5 Step, 8D. Use statistical methods, best practices and change procedures to analyze, improve and prevent recurrence.
  • Participate in Continuous Improvement teams to exceed customer expectations and industry requirements for quality standards.
  • Ensure QSC Visual Quality Standards and customer requirements meet customer expectations. Ensure non-destructive examinations of welded pressure vessels are performed as required.
  • Perform priority-based product audits as a function of nonconformance frequency and severity of risk. Audit inspection stations for compliance to all requirements.
  • Maintain Radiation Safety program through ongoing audit review, maintenance programs, and monitoring reports. Ensure qualified personnel conduct examinations and safety checks.
  • Routinely review, audit and disposition all purchased materials to ensure conformance to ASME Code requirements.
  • Maintain records for all components, in-process, finished and repair products ensuring product conformance and traceability throughout product life cycle.
  • Ensure all QSC inspections/assessments are completed per the QSC manual.
  • Maintain work-station instructions and standard work to ensure Code compliance. Provide product disposition toward continuous process/product improvement.   • Utilize fact-based approach in solving problems and continuous improvement of internal and customer quality problems, utilizing trends in quality KPIs to drive actions.
  • Ensure all test equipment, gauges are calibrated per scheduled frequency.
  • Maintain change control of all customer requirements including manufacturing packaging, handling, servicing activities at the plant level.
  • Participate in customer complaint resolution and ensure CERs communicated plant wide.

Experience:
  • 1-2 years previous quality or technical/engineering experience; heavy industrial manufacturing experience a plus.
  • Experience with welding, powder coating, steel quality or similar process preferred.
  • Experience using quality management systems, Six Sigma and Lean preferred.
  • Knowledge or experience with ASME code associated with welded pressure vessels is helpful.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Ability to use measurement/test equipment (i.e. calipers, micrometers, various gauges, etc.)
  • The ability to read technical drawings/prints, strong application of mathematics
  • Ability to communicate quality concerns to operators in objective and collaborative way
  • Strong team player, strong communication skills both verbal and written
  • Ability to translate technical, customer issues to operational requirements
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously

Education and Certification Qualifications:
  • Associate degree in technical discipline or equivalent work experience in manufacturing.
