The publication seeks a full-time business administrator with proven skills in planning, budgeting, project management and human resources. This is an opportunity to be a key member of a team creating a publication featuring frontier ideas, diverse voices, innovative analysis, and illuminating debate about one of the most crucial and complex issues of our time - a publication based at Stanford, which has a new sustainability school that is plowing fresh intellectual ground.The business administrator will work closely with the publication's editor-in-chief and other members of the leadership team as the publication and team grow. The person also will interact with the publication's advisory committee and other stakeholders. The business administrator will report to the editor-in-chief.


Your Responsibilities will include:

    Developing and maintaining the publication's budget, in consultation with the publication's leadership on budget priorities and strategy and working with relevant Doerr School Dean's Office units and other Stanford offices on budgeting procedures.Overseeing and executing project management across the publication's work streams, including: designing, building, and managing an efficient and effective system of project-management software that will be used by the publication's leadership and staff; calculating and sequencing timeframes for various streams of deliverables; working with outside contractors and internal staff to monitor progress on deliverables; identifying any issues in that progress; structuring strategic discussions with, and writing reports that include recommending solutions to, the publication's leadership about the implications of that progress on the publication's broader strategy.In consultation with the publication's leadership about hiring strategy, managing the hiring process and its workflow, including: drafting job postings for leadership review that comply with Stanford human-resources policy; overseeing and executing communication with job applicants throughout the hiring process; assisting leadership in reviewing applicants; and working with necessary offices at the Doerr School and elsewhere at Stanford to execute hiring agreements and to assist with onboarding new hires.Researching and managing the creation and maintenance of the publication's distribution list. In consultation with the publication's leadership about strategic priorities, planning and developing agendas for, and overseeing the logistics of, meetings with the publication's advisory committee, and managing certain communication with committee members.Planning, designing, and drafting presentations about the publication for a variety of internal and external audiences. Administrative duties including expense accounting, program planning, payment of authors and other contractors, and some scheduling.

To be successful in this position, you will need:
Education & Experience:Bachelor's degree and three years of relevant experience, or combination of education and relevant experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
    Demonstrated ability to prioritize own work and multi-task.Demonstrated excellent organizational skills.Demonstrated ability to take initiative and ownership of projects.Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.Ability to routinely and independently exercise sound judgment in making decisions.Demonstrated experience working independently and as part of a team.Relevant subject matter knowledge.Ability to direct the work of others, for jobs requiring supervision.

In addition, preferred qualifications include:
    Experience in a senior administrative role of a growing organization and demonstrated ability to succeed in such a role.Knowledge of Stanford University systems and policiesComfort with the change inherent in building a new enterprise.Experience with project management, including project-management softwareExperience with hiring processesExperience conceptualizing, designing, and drafting slide presentations
The expected pay range for this position is $99,015 to $126,383 per annum. Stanford University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for a position. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location, and external market pay for comparable jobs.At Stanford University, base pay represents only one aspect of the comprehensive rewards package.
