The University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics is seeking a Nursing Assistant for the Medical Surgical Oncology Unit (4JPP) within the Medical Surgical Services (MSS) Division. Our Medical-Surgical Services Division is one of the largest in the hospital, with more than 260 of our 811 beds assigned to medical-surgical care settings. The Medical Surgical Oncology Unit is a 44-bed adult medical-surgical oncology, urology unit. This unit is part of the National Cancer Institute (NCI) designated Holden Comprehensive Cancer center and Silver Beacon Award of Excellence Unit. This unit is ranked 43rd in the nation for cancer care according to US. News and World Report.
Surgical patients receiving post-op care for laparoscopic and complex oncology related surgeries including:
Thyroidectomies
Gastrectomies
Adrenalectomies
Splenectomies
Liver resections
Bowel resections
Melanoma excisions
Pancreaticoduodenectomies (Whipple procedure)
*Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center is an NCI-designated Cancer Center, the only one in Iowa
Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
Stock and supply patient rooms and Nursing unit
Clean equipment, patient bedside area and nursing unit
Set up rooms for patient admission
Transport patients by bed, cart or wheelchair
Transport equipment, specimens and supplies
Perform patient personal hygiene such as bathing, toileting, feeding, dressing, grooming and oral care for patients
Assist patients with bedpans, urinals and perineal cleansing
Regular salaried position located in Iowa City, Iowa
