SHRM’s mission revolves around empowering HR professionals, students, politicos, enterprises, and executives with innovative, informative, and engaging content. The Lead, B2C Content, plays a crucial role in this mission, overseeing all production aspects of HR Quarterly and contributing significantly to our B2C Content Team. This role, which reports to the Director, B2C Content, demands a creative and audience-centric approach to content, ensuring that every piece we publish resonates with our members and the broader HR community worldwide.
RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES
Lead the production of HR Quarterly, working closely with the Director, B2C Content; Lead, Publications Producer; and other stakeholders to incorporate innovative content strategies that address the unique needs of our audience segments, including HR professionals, students, politicos, enterprises, and executives.
In conjunction with key stakeholders, develop and manage HR Quarterly’s annual editorial calendar, as well as plan the content of each issue.
Using project management tools, oversee the editorial process from concept to publication, ensuring content quality, accuracy, and alignment with SHRM's strategic goals.
Working collaboratively with both internal and external writers and editors, assign, write, and edit articles that reflect the highest standards of accuracy, clarity, and engagement, ensuring our content remains at the forefront of HR and business discussions.
Cultivate and manage relationships with a network of contributors, identifying and cultivating story ideas that align with our mission to inform, educate, and engage our audience.
Collaborate with SHRM’s creative and digital product teams to develop compelling visuals and interactive elements, enhancing the reader experience across digital platforms.
Work with SHRM’s Content Operations and Publishing team to track and report relevant data and benchmarks.
Stay updated on publishing innovations, integrating cutting-edge strategies and technologies into our content offerings to maintain SHRM's leadership in the HR content space.
Regularly write and edit articles to be published via SHRM’s digital channels, including SHRM.org, newsletters, and other outlets.
Support SHRM strategic initiatives and business objectives through collaborative efforts across departments, ensuring content alignment with overarching goals.
Key Skills, Abilities, and Other Requirements (KSAOs)
Knowledge:
Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, or a related field.
A minimum of 8 years of experience in writing and editing, with a strong preference for backgrounds in business-to-consumer (B2C) publications.
Understanding of HR, business, government, economic, and/or workplace issues, with the ability to translate complex topics into engaging content for diverse audience segments.
Proficiency in digital publishing tools, including CMS, SEO, and analytics tools, to measure and enhance audience engagement.
Knowledge of Microsoft Office suite, InCopy, online publishing tools, and social media platforms such as LinkedIn; experience with Monday.com and Adobe AEM a plus.
Skills & Abilities
Exceptional writing and editing skills, coupled with a creative mindset and strong idea generation capabilities.
Proven track record in digital production, including CMS knowledge and the use of multimedia and social media elements to enhance content engagement.
Experience in managing editorial production schedules, demonstrating an ability to deliver high-quality content on time and within budget.
Strong collaborative and interpersonal skills, with a history of successful partnerships with freelance contributors, editorial teams, and across departments.
Organized and detail-oriented, capable of managing multiple tasks.
Ability to work effectively in a team and adapt to changing priorities.
Physical Requirements
Must be able to perform essential duties satisfactorily with reasonable accommodation.
Work is generally done sitting, talking, hearing, and typing. Visual acuity to use a keyboard, prepare and analyze data and figures; transcribing, viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading.

The hiring range for this position is $105,000 to $115,000 per year. This range is an estimate, and the actual salary may vary based on the candidate's experience, skills, and qualifications. SHRM offers a competitive and comprehensive total rewards package.
