University of Hawai'i, Kapi'olani Community College, Health Education Non-Credit is seeking applications for the Dental Assisting Non-Credit Instructor position. Important note: Applicants seeking short-term or part-time work with the University of Hawai'i may apply for Casual Hire positions, which include administrative, professional, and technical (APT) or instructional-type positions. Because of the temporary nature of these appointments, Casual Hire employees are not eligible for most benefits as provided to regular BOR and Civil Service employees (i.e. paid holidays/leave). Casual Hire appointments may last for up to 89 days for full-time employees, and up to 1 calendar year for part-time employees.

Duties and Responsibilities:Teach a dental assisting course (short term non-credit) to prepare students to work as dental assistants in HawaiiMonitor student progress and provide periodic assessmentsCoordinate dental facilities for student externship placementProvide externship monitoringAttend meetings and perform other duties as required
Minimum Qualifications:Bachelor's degree or higher in Health Sciences or Biological Sciences AND 3 years of experience with teaching in health education courses or programs and/or work experience in dental assisting. Must have current Dental Assisting National Board "Certified Dental Assistant" and any current dental assisting credential required by the state of Hawai'i.
ORCertification as a Dental Assistant; AND Baccalaureate degree or higher in any field) AND 5 years of experience with teaching in health education courses or programs and/or work experience in dental assisting. Must have current Dental Assisting National Board "Certified Dental Assistant" and any current dental assisting credential required by the state of Hawai'i.
ORCertification as a Dental Assistant; AND Associate degree in any field AND 7 years of experience with teaching and/or work experience in dental assisting. Must have background in and current knowledge of the specific subjects they are teaching. Must have current Dental Assisting National Board "Certified Dental Assistant" and any current dental assisting credential required by the state of Hawai'i.
ORAssociate degree in any field AND 10 years of experience with teaching and/or work experience in dental assisting. Must have background in and current knowledge of the specific subjects they are teaching. Must have current Dental Assisting National Board "Certified Dental Assistant" and any current dental assisting credential required by the state of Hawai'i.
OR12 years of experience with teaching and/or work experience in dental assisting. Must have background in and current knowledge of the specific subjects they are teaching. Must have current Dental Assisting National Board "Certified Dental Assistant" and any current dental assisting credential required by the state of Hawai'i.
OR15 years of experience with teaching and/or work experience in dental assisting. Must have background in and current knowledge of the specific subjects they are teaching




Desirable Qualifications:Professional experience in teaching and training dental assistants.Demonstrated ability to use computers and educational technology such as Emails and Spreadsheets and Learning Management Systems commonly used in educational settings
