About Metadata Services:





Metadata Services creates, enhances, remediates, and transforms descriptive and discovery metadata in multiple schemas to provide discovery and access to library resources in SearchWorks (our Blacklight implementation) and the Stanford Digital Repository, through the integrated work of four units: Metadata Creation, Metadata Design, E-resources Control and Data Control. The E-Resources Unit is charged with the pre-processing and ingest of vendor-supplied e-resource packages, batch metadata remediation and other large-scale batch processes within our library system. Staff members are also participating in our linked data projects and are instrumental in our move to our new library services platform, FOLIO.





About the Position:





The Data Import Specialist will be responsible for the loading and remediation of vendor-supplied bibliographic records for electronic resources into FOLIO. The Specialist will collaborate with other E-Resources staff in identifying issues in batch loading, and determining and creating workarounds, reporting needs, and gaps in functionality. This will require contributions to the development and testing of automation scripts for tasks, scheduling and other functions using MarcEdit, XSLT or other scripting languages, documentation review and updating, and participation in testing future versions of the FOLIO Data Import app.





Core Duties*:




  • Perform tracking, loading, and remediation (complex maintenance and/or enhancement) of vendor-supplied records through FOLIO, especially e-resources.



  • Participate in testing of FOLIO Data Import, including developing and testing new workflows, versions, and documentation.



  • Participate in developing and testing automation scripts for batch loads



  • Communicate internally with Stanford Libraries units and collaborate with partners across the Stanford Libraries.

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS






    Education and Experience:




    ·Bachelor's degree plus three or more years of experience in an academic library, or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.





    Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:





  • Ability to work with a variety of e-resource content and languages.



  • Basic experience with, or ability to quickly learn, MarcEdit, XSLT and/or scripting languages (e.g., Perl, Python)



  • Experience using or ability to learn one or more library automated systems; experience with FOLIO preferred



  • Excellent analytic and problem-solving skills.



  • Ability to work effectively in a dynamic, production-oriented environment and the ability to adapt quickly and work under pressure to meet deadlines and production goals.



  • Demonstrated ability to maintain consistent accuracy and attention to detail while maintaining a very high level of productivity



  • Good keyboarding skills and physical tolerance for at least six hours per day of keying



  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing



  • Ability to process materials in a wide variety of foreign languages and subjects.



  • Demonstrated experience with cataloging at the copy and/or derived original level according to standards such as: AACR2, RDA, MARC21 bibliographic and holdings formats



  • Demonstrated ability to effectively search OCLC.



  • Ability to work with a variety of non-MARC metadata formats.



  • Ability to follow and apply the content rules for creating metadata records as specified for individual projects.



  • Demonstrated computer proficiency with word processing, spreadsheets and communication software such as email



  • Record of excellent attendance







  • Other Relevant Knowledge, Skills and Abilities May Include:




  • Experience with batch processing of MARC21 bibliographic records (e.g. loading, batch-editing, transformation)



  • Experience with using tools such as MarcEdit, XSLT, and/or scripting languages (e.g. Perl, Python) to transform or remediate metadata.



  • Familiarity with Atlassian's Jira and Confluence software for bug tracking and documentation.







  • Physical Requirements:





  • Ability to push a cart weighing up to 650 lbs. that requires an initial push force up to 70 lbs.



  • Ability to work in an environment that is dusty and or moldy



  • Ability to lift books that are up to 10 pounds



  • Ability to kneel and reach



  • Must be able to stand for many hours

    The expected pay range for this position is $34.87 to $44.91 per hour.Stanford University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for a position. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location, and external market pay for comparable jobs.
