ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The work at this level involves nonstandard industrial or research and development applications which lack clear precedent and requires extensive adaptation of methods. The work may require that electrical specialists fabricate, install, modify, and troubleshoot specialized electrical control or monitoring systems and equipment designed to meet unique conditions associated with testing. The electrical systems which support the testing are regularly subjected to extreme demands for accuracy of control motion, load sensing, etc., under severe conditions such as high speed, altitude, temperature, humidity, water, icing, pressure and pressure distortions. Electricians at this level receive little or no technical supervision. They apply more ingenuity, judgment, and skill than electricians at lower levels in planning and laying out the work to meet a variety of unique and critical requirements. Additionally, technical guides or diagrams are frequently incomplete or unavailable for the more demanding modification work or troubleshooting required.

Essential job functions include:

  • Design the electrical portion of new test simulation equipment and test fixtures.
  • Fabricate and integrate electrical hardware for special projects.
  • Plan, design, fabricate, modify and install electrical, digital, and electronic equipment or fixtures to meet test support and power distribution requirements.
  • Perform technical feasibility studies of electrical modifications to existing environmental test equipment and systems.
  • Evaluate the effects of electrical, digital, and electronic modifications on equipment performance using such instruments as digital multimeters, signal generators, semiconductor testers, and oscilloscopes.
  • Identify, acquire, and install electrical, electronic, digital, or high voltage equipment according to industry standards.

GENERAL DUTIES:

  • Works independently to resolve routine and moderately difficult tasks with occasional support and consults with higher level expertise as needed.
  • Expected to be fully proficient in the area of expertise.
  • Support the operation and maintenance of all electrical distribution equipment and other miscellaneous electrically operated equipment throughout the MCL including operate and maintain all electrical distribution system equipment in the MCL.
  • Operate and maintain all electrical support equipment.
  • Operate and maintain the intercom system installed throughout the test chamber.
  • Maintain the electrical subsystems of hundreds of pieces of equipment installed throughout the MCL.
  • Design the electrical portion of new test simulation equipment and test fixtures.

  • Perform engineering analysis as needed to propose solutions, corrections, and improvements for operation and maintenance of plant equipment to include the interpretation of blueprints, drawings, and schematics.
  • Perform field measurements on aircraft and other test items using precision instruments to engineer and fabricate electrical, digital, or electronic specialty items.
  • Evaluate the effects of electrical, digital, and electronic modifications on equipment performance using such instruments as digital multimeters, signal generators, semiconductor testers, and oscilloscopes.
  • Identify, acquire, and install electrical, electronic, digital, or high voltage equipment according to industry standards.


Job Requirements:

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: Must have forklift license. Incumbents must have either: (1) Formal electrician training acquired through vocational or military service school training or a certified electrician apprenticeship program AND 5 years’ commercial/industrial experience in the electrician trade or, (2) 10 years’ commercial/industrial experience in the electrician trade including electrical installation/construction such as conduit bending, threading and fitting, wire pulling and terminating. Must have familiarity with the National Electrical Code.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS: This position requires a Secret security clearance. Candidates must be eligible to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance. Supports E-OMS operational objectives. Observes company Quality, Safety, Environmental, Security and Administrative policies; supports Process Improvement.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Works in temperature extremes from -65 to 130 degrees Fahrenheit.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Lifts loads as heavy as 75 pounds. Works at heights up to 100 feet in elevation from ladders or high reach equipment.
