The Director of Advancement Services is a strategic and operational leader responsible for managing the data services area within the Office of Advancement. This individual is responsible for creating and implementing efficient and accurate processes, practices and policies across the department that will lead to more data-informed decision making and fundraising success. The Director will play a key role in long range and short-term planning for areas of database management and integrity, gift processing, prospect identification and management, reporting and data analysis and system enhancements.
The position reports to the Vice President of Advancement.
Description of Duties and Responsibilities:
Supervises, manages and maintains the overall design, use and accuracy of Blackbaud Raiser's Edge NXT, the Office of Advancement's comprehensive alumni and donor database and any integration with ancillary systems.
Oversees data entry, gift processing, donor acknowledgement and gift and pledge accounting while ensuring the maintenance of accurate and comprehensive records.
Responsible for the design and production of timely, accurate and comprehensive financial and analytical reports, Board of Trustee reports, queries and mailing lists to support execution of Advancement goals as well as the development of short- and long-term strategic plans for the team.
Responsible for possessing comprehensive knowledge of relevant business standards such as IRS regulations for gift recording and receipting and CASE standards, operating guidelines and reporting requirements, and basic understanding of generally accepted accounting principles.
Provides strategic leadership in partnering with the Finance Office to create stronger synergies and more effective processes and communication to ensure the highest level of operation.
Develops and implements gift and donor policies, including the gift acceptance policy, naming policy, campaign counting policy and all other related policies and standard agreements.
Works with the Vice President of Advancement to implement and refine use of the moves management system.
Develops and implements a proactive strategy to identify prospective donors and assess their capacity and inclination, ensuring robust and strategically constructed prospect portfolios, and implementing innovative approaches to identifying new potential donors.
Provides leadership in proactive pipeline management for the team to enable annual and long-term goals to be achieved.
Performs other related duties as assigned by the Vice President of Advancement.
Qualification Standards:
Education: Bachelor's degree required with a Master's degree preferred.
Experience:
Minimum 5-10 years professional work experience in advancement with a proven track record of successful outcomes.
Deep understanding and knowledge of best practices in fundraising and development operations.
Strong background in the management of information systems/CRMs and reporting/analysis/project management preferred.
