Job Description Summary
Penn Vet's New Bolton Center provides an internationally renowned standard of care. Located on a campus of some 700 acres in Chester County, Pennsylvania, New Bolton Center has one of the largest caseloads of any academic large animal hospital in the nation. Position located in Kennett Square, PA. No public transportation available.
Under the direction of the Clinical Service lead perform all duties related to patient handling and restraint during clinical procedures and patient treatments.
Job Description
Under the supervision of the Clinical Service Lead perform all duties related to patient handling and restraint during clinical procedures and patient treatments, jog horses in hand and lunge for lameness and neurologic exams. Perform general patient care including but not limited to: feeding, grooming, applying standing wraps and recognizing patient comfort. Assist in the operation of the high speed treadmill; help prepare horses for treadmill examinations which may include: harnessing, catheter preparation, applying protective exercising equipment, etc. Assist with other areas within the hospital where needed, to include holding and restraining horses for various imaging diagnostics (i.e. upper airway endoscopies, radiology, nuclear medicine, and robotic CT).
RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES
Perform all duties related to patient handling and restraint during patient treatments and clinical procedures, emergencies, and standing surgeries.
Jog horses in hand and lunge for lameness and neurological exams.
Perform general patient care including but not limited to: feeding, grooming, applying standing wraps, and recognizing patient comfort.
Assist in teaching for both veterinary and veterinary technician students.
Escort clients to their animals for visitation.
Stocking treatment areas and setting up for emergencies.

Qualifications
High school graduate, with a minimum of 2 years experience working with horses, accomplished and comfortable with horses and their behavior. Good organizational skills with the ability to prioritize effectively required. Must be able to communicate both orally and written. Must be able to work well with others. Computer skills required. Weekends and holidays are required.
