Job Description:

The Product Designer will develop soft goods products from concept to final production specified parts. This position is extremely hands-on and visually oriented, and requires the ability to conceptualize and design complex 2-D and 3-D geometric shapes. A background with some traditional art skills such as drawing and sculpture to supplement knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite and SolidWorks is preferred for the position. A strong desire to learn modern production cut & sew methods, techniques, and machine use is a must.

Essential Functions
  • Create design solutions and product plan, which is developed from the project scope.
  • Support the creation of designs using 2-D concept renderings and 3-D CAD (Solidworks) drawings.
  • Support internal and customer fit reviews/critiques of prototypes on the vehicles to achieve the highest level of product integration and functionality.
  • Assist in all aspects of product design verification and reliability testing.
  • Collaborate with Senior Designer to develop innovative new products, materials, and processes to evolve current product lines.
  • Develop sewing patterns with corresponding product specification drawings/tech packs that ensure a complete, detailed and accurate sample build.
  • Create and/or review drawing with critical information and tolerances for the correct manufacturing of the product.
  • Ensure adherence to established specifications and standards pertaining to the product being designed.
  • Gain understanding of production equipment, standards, procedures and core competencies.
  • Assist with other tasks when needed.

Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Design (BSID, BFA) or Product Design.
  • Proficiency with design related software, mainly Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and Solidworks.
  • Able to learn new computer software programs quickly.
  • Portfolio demonstrating ID drawings and modelmaking skills.
  • Strong hand and digital drawing/sketching abilities.
  • Familiar with plastic & foam molding processes (injection, vac-form, compression, extrusion).
  • A general knowledge of materials and manufacturing processes
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • Team player with strong collaborative and relationship building skills.
  • Applied Lean manufacturing knowledge.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively.
  • Availability to travel as necessary.
