What You'll Do:
As the Railcar Finishing Supervisor, you will play a pivotal figure within our plant leadership team. Your responsibilities will encompass the oversight of both the exterior and interior paint and lining teams, managing day-to-day operations, and contributing to the development of our long-term operational strategy. Key responsibilities include:
Leading the training and onboarding of new team members
Effectively scheduling and delegating work assignments
Proactively addressing operational challenges
Managing production and maintaining high standards of safety, quality, and production output
Responsible for the finishing (paint/Lining process for railcars brought in for routine and non routine maintenance
Responsible to ensure all work meet both customer and FRA expectations and compliance requirements
Responsible for leading the valve rebuild and certification shop
Manage and direct the activities of supervisors and operations teams
Ensure employees are trained and properly certified for the work the perform
Work with all functional departments in implementation of continuous improvement activities associated with the manufacturing process
Demonstrate strong mentoring skills for coaching and developing supervision staff as well as hourly personnel
Responsible for the Environmental Health and Safety of employees in Finishing/Paint Department to include confined space entry, interior/exterior sandblasting, paint and lining application, environmental compliance and conservation and responsible waste disposal
Responsible for the Quality of car painting/lining and adhering to Trinity and customer quality specifications and requirements
Responsible for finishing building labor efficiency and financial results of the operation
Set productions schedules based on commodity, efficiency and staffing resources and volume required to meet the overall paint production
Responsible for capturing all the additional work made on the railcar in their shop
Responsible for managing operational costs for their building and department
Responsible to align finishing and coordinate workload according to completion schedules
Member of the site leadership team with responsibility to deliver on financial performance, strategic and tactical business objectives and the positive work culture of the site
What You'll Need
5+ years of applicable Manufacturing Management experience
5+ years of experience in metal fabrication and manufacturing environment with emphasis on Paint, Lining and Blasting activities
NACE or AMPP coating certification preferred
Experience, knowledge or training of Lean Manufacturing methodologies with actual implementation background
Experience in application processes of coating materials including blast, paint and lining. Experience with railcars and/or other vessels required
Must have people management experience; ability to supervise and interface effectively with employees of all levels
Experience managing operational expenses for department that ensures good stewardship of company resources to achieve business objectives
Confined space entry management experience required
Knowledge of operations or the ability to acquire it quickly
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Ability to effectively plan work procedures, equipment, material and manpower needs
Ability to effectively build and lead a productive work group as well as to perform as a member of the management team
