About Us:

Environment for the Americas (EFTA) is dedicated to enhancing diversity, equity, and inclusion within the fields of conservation and natural resources. Our internship programs connect diverse young leaders with meaningful opportunities in nature conservancy and related fields, with a particular emphasis on serving the Latino community.

Position Overview:

We are seeking a dedicated and passionate assistant to serve as a liaison for up to 20 interns, with a focus on those participating in our initiatives aimed at supporting the Latino community. This role involves working closely with early career and college-age youth, ensuring they receive guidance and support as they embark on their first professional experiences in natural resource fields, while also supporting EFTA staff in the administration and organization of the programs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Participant Support: Conduct regular check-ins with interns, especially those from the Latino community, to provide guidance, address challenges, and celebrate successes.
  • Supervisor Collaboration: Communicate with intern supervisors (partnered with NPS) to ensure a supportive work environment and effective communication.
  • Mentorship: Serve as a mentor to interns, particularly those from diverse backgrounds, helping them develop professional skills and navigate their early career paths.
  • Cultural Competence: Foster an inclusive environment that acknowledges and respects the unique experiences of Latino interns.
  • Reporting and Evaluation: Assist in tracking participant progress and outcomes, providing feedback for program improvement, and entering data into tracking systems.
  • Administration & Logistics: Assist with the general administration of program activities, including reviewing websites, scheduling lodging, packing and mailing materials, organizing paperwork, assisting with training sessions, reserving rooms, and more.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience working with early career and college-age youth, preferably in a mentoring or program coordination role.
  • Strong understanding of diversity, equity, and inclusion principles, particularly in relation to the Latino community and the natural resources sector.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to connect with youth from diverse backgrounds.
  • Comprehensive organizational skills.
  • Experience in project coordination.
  • Strong writing skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
