Job Summary

We are seeking aDirector of Food Safety and Quality that will primarily be responsible for the oversight and management of all food safety, regulatory, and quality aspects of SK Food Brands retail and foodservice products. In addition, this role will support the commercialization of new products and operational needs to ensure customer and brand excellence.

Schedule: Monday-Friday (estimate and flexible)

Location: Onsite with travel - Domestic and International

Reporting to: President

Salary Range: $125,000-$170,000 (Depending on Experience)

Position Summary

The core responsibility of the Director of Food Safety & Quality is to support the growth and development of the company and provide technical and operational leadership for product development, food safety, regulatory, and quality. Liaison between co-packers, customers, and importing teams.

Roles and Responsibilities:
  • Direct responsibility for all technical aspects of Food Safety & Quality department including, but not limited to, retail customer requests, product issues, and regulatory compliance. This is a hands-on position with supervision of a Quality Control associate.
  • Engage with internal key stakeholders to support brand growth, product development, and operational needs.
  • Managing and maintaining relationships with contract manufacturers to ensure food safety, regulatory, and quality compliance alignment with requirements and customer expectations.
  • Developing and maintaining brand management programs through creation of key documentation and processes that will build a foundation for growth.
  • Assist with creation of specification, testing plans, and verification activities to ensure product is meeting standards.
  • Managing and monitoring compliance and conducting activities related to the importation of products (FDA Foreign Supplier Verification Program).
  • Communicate effectively with management on technical and operational needs through leading meetings and presentations.
  • Support the team in developing operational excellence to ensure brand growth.

Required Qualifications
  • Significant technical knowledge of food safety regulations; processes; systems and programs.
  • Understanding microbiological and chemical risks in foods and specifically seafood industry
  • Seafood & FSMA background is a plus.
  • General knowledge of project management and development.
  • Problem solving skills including the ability to lead the Quality team and support the operational needs of the business.
  • Works cross-functionally with internal and external stakeholders to gain alignment.
  • Ability to make risk-based decisions and act when issues arise.
  • Effective oral and written communications skills including professional presentations.
  • Works well under pressure and manages adverse situations, conflict resolution when necessary.
  • Strong skills as a team leader and ability to collaborate with peers.
  • Advanced organizational and personal skills.
  • Ability to interpret regulations and standards.
  • Technical aptitude, the ability to quickly assimilate and assess new information and develop plans to capitalize or react to it.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's or advanced degree in related field
  • 7 years' experience in the food industry or seafood industry is a plus.
  • Certifications to support provision of training on key food safety systems and programs (e.g., BRC, SQF, HACCP, FSMA).
  • Computer skills Microsoft Office - Teams, SharePoint, Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Ability to travel Internationally.
