Plywood Shift Supervisor at Boise Cascade Company in Chapman, Alabama

Job Description:

The Production Supervisor is responsible for managing all production, safety, quality and maintenance activities within the department during his/her shift.



  1. Receives written and oral work instructions from Superintendent and communicates instructions to employees in his/her work area

  2. Assigns duties and instructs other employees on work and safety procedures

  3. Assists Superintendent in the development of a maintenance list for scheduled maintenance days

  4. Responsible for achieving targets established for safety, turnover, production, manhours, and quality

  5. Provides feedback to employees regarding performance in safety, turnover, production, manhours, and quality, including disciplinary action if required

  6. Conducts a daily inspection of the department to ensure compliance with established operating procedures

  7. Completes daily production reports, manhours reports, timesheets, and other assigned paperwork; ensures all paperwork is neat and accurate and turned in a timely manner

  8. Ensures that all operators on shift follow equipment setup procedures and safe operation of equipment

  9. Conducts new employee orientations and progress reports, and monthly safety training with employees

  10. Troubleshoots and identifies causes of any machine downtime problems within the department

  11. Consults with Department Superintendent on major machine center problems and recommends solutions to improve efficiency and limit future downtime

  12. Assists Maintenance Department with completion of repairs per PM schedule

  13. Can perform or learn to perform all positions within the department

  14. Performs on-the-job training for employees; facilitates cross-training of employees


Participates in investigations of near-misses, first aids and accidents of employees
