Job Description:

As a Director of Technical Design, you will lead the technical design of Lands’ End products for all categories, divisions, and channels, maintaining corporate direction.  You will manage the overall workflow within all categories, divisions, and channels.  You will guide your Technical Design staff in partnering with the cross-functional team in developing product from initial concept through fit to production.  You will ensure your Technical Design staff successfully translate the product design and style vision into a consistent fit and quality level through application of blocks, pattern analysis, fit analysis, appropriate construction methods, accurate specification packages, and fit session management.


Job Functions



  • Direct the technical design process, including fit, patterns, grading, fabric, construction, and manufacturing

  • Oversee fit sessions and fit models, maintain responsibility for all product in all categories/divisions/channels  

  • Oversee writing fit comments, documenting fit history, tracking samples 

  • Drive usage of PLM to create, update, and maintain accurate and complete specifications 

  • Drive usage of 2D and 3D software for pattern corrections and maintenance

  • Oversee consistent fit and quality standards in product.  Establish, implement, and monitor product standards.

  • Drive proactively identifying and advising on fit, production, quality, and costing issues to ensure brand integrity

  • Drive initiatives to design/develop innovative construction related to cost savings

  • Oversee collaboration and initiatives with cross-functional teams to drive the development process

  • Communicate information internally to share expectations, solve problems, manage the process/workflow, and achieve objectives

  • Drive adherence to the calendar to ensure deadlines are met

  • Hire, develop, and coach team members, including onboarding, individual performance plans, and performance management

  • Build productive team, including implementing best practices, developing and implementing learning/training opportunities

  • Direct overall workflow of the Technical Design team, including monitoring the execution of Technical Design functions to meet calendars, utilize individual strengths, balance workloads


 


Skills



  • Minimum 15 years technical design experience

  • Expert knowledge of apparel fit, patterns, grading, fabric, construction, and manufacturing

  • Expert knowledge of PLM, 2D, and 3D software

  • Demonstrated excellence in leadership skills, including collaboration, training, ability to build and motivate team, strategic thinker.

  • Excellent prioritization and organizational skills, organize workflow to meet deadlines

  • Leader in change management
