Major/Essential Functions
To provide and direct comprehensive and expert advanced nursing care for critically ill or injured children and families in the PICU. The APN evaluates, plans, and provides care for patients in consultation with and under direct supervisor of attending Physician. APN performs clinical procedures under direction of attending Physician and according to approved protocols. Initiates and changes orders for tests and patient care based on condition of patient and approval of Physician. Develops and maintains active practice in facilities. Assist attending Physicians with education of nursing staff and residents. APN develops and implements protocols to assist with delivery of care to the critically ill or injured children. The APN will report clinically to the Lead APN, Medical Director of PICU, and PCCM Division Director. Administratively, the APN will report to the PCCM Division Director.
Position Summary
The practitioner functions as a health care provider within the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) specialty service for the purpose of providing age appropriate and culturally sensitive care.
This position is open to Acute Care Pediatric Nurse Practitioners (CPNP-ACs)
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The practice will involve care and management of patients in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) specialty setting. Care will include preforming admission H & Ps, plan of care and day-to-day management of PICU patients. Practitioner will manage (in collaboration with the attending) the entire inpatient course. Practitioner will initiate referrals and follow up on consults to other providers.
The APN will work scheduled shifts throughout the month with hours consistent with 40-50 hours per week.
The APN will initiate and work on research projects, QI, Case studies, and presentations for further education and evidence-based practice within the PICU.
This position will require credentialing through our Medical Staff Services Department.

Master's degree in nursing
Recognition as an Acute Care Pediatric Nurse Practitioner (or eligible) by the Texas State Board of Nurse Examiners
Current CPR/BLS for the Healthcare Provider, and current PALS certification.
Previous CPNP- AC experience in a PICU preferred but will accept new graduates.
3 years (minimum) experience as a RN in the PICU.
