Position Summary:

The Division of Pulmonary Diseases and Critical Care Medicine at the UNC School of Medicine is recruiting for a full-time faculty member with expertise in Interventional Pulmonary Medicine. Duties include, but are not limited to, seeing referrals for diagnostic and therapeutic procedures related to known or suspected lung cancer, thoracic metastasis, infectious or interstitial diseases of the lung, and pleural diseases. They will be responsible for management of benign and malignant obstructive airway lesions, lung malignancies requiring endoluminal therapies, robotic assisted evaluation of suspicious parenchymal lung lesions, acute and chronic pleural processes, and performance of bedside tracheostomy placement. These duties will be conducted in the inpatient and ambulatory care settings. They will be responsible for teaching pulmonary procedures to fellow trainees in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine and subspecialty fellows in Interventional Pulmonary. They will also have opportunities to attend in the Medical Intensive Care Unit with additional related teaching duties. Additionally, the position will include opportunities to conduct clinical research related to cancer diagnostics/therapeutics, pleural diseases, and innovative interventional procedures.


Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

Applicants must hold an MD or DO degree and be BC/BE in Internal Medicine, Pulmonary Diseases, Critical Care Medicine, and Interventional Pulmonology. Candidates will have completed a minimum of one year of interventional pulmonary fellowship training. Candidates should have experience performing advanced diagnostic and rigid bronchoscopy, robotic assisted navigational bronchoscopy, bedside tracheostomy, thoracic ultrasound, thoracentesis, chest tube placement, tunneled pleural catheter placement, medical thoracoscopy and management of complex pleural processes.


Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience:

Formal training in clinical research methods or experience in formal GME education is preferred.
