The Structural Genomics Consortium Center for Chemical Biology in the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy is a multi-disciplinary research group that uses cell biology, chemical biology, and medicinal chemistry to generate open science research tools and data for the dark proteome.
We are seeking a highly self-motivated and experienced research associate to support key medicinal chemistry capabilities at the SGC-UNC. The person hired will join SGC-UNC and support collaborative drug discovery projects and the investigation of proteins implicated in disease, especially those that have been historically understudied. This position is responsible for providing synthetic and drug development support, including the measurement of physicochemical properties and pharmacokinetic analyses, and interfacing with the cell biology team as part of iterative optimization efforts. The applicant must have expertise in organic chemistry, medicinal chemistry, and interpretation of biological assay and pharmacokinetic study results. The successful applicant will be familiar with and capable of performing a wide range of lab procedures, including running chemical reactions, isolation and purification of products, use of microwave reactors and automated purification and analytical instrumentation, interpretation of analytical spectra, and other standard laboratory practices such as TLC and LC-MS. The applicant must be able to prepare presentations and manuscripts as well as demonstrate a high level of attention to detail and quality. The research associate will function as part of a multidisciplinary team, which requires he/she to be a strong team player, and have excellent written and verbal communication skills. The hired individual is also expected to take on some lab organization and maintenance responsibilities, including but not limited to maintaining reagents, maintaining databases, and general maintenance and upkeep of laboratory space.
Relevant post-Baccalaureate degree required (or foreign degree equivalent); for candidates demonstrating comparable independent research productivity, will accept a relevant Bachelor's degree (or foreign degree equivalent) and 3 or more years of relevant experience in substitution. May require terminal degree and licensure.
