SUMMARY:
Analyzes blueprints, specifications, proposals, and other documentation to prepare labor, equipment, and materials/subcontractor estimates for large and complex work. Provides complete conceptual and final estimating input on complex work using knowledge of specialized methodologies, techniques, principles, or processes. May supervise junior staff members. Ensures that estimates are completed ethically, on time, competitive, and accurate.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Reviews proposal specifications and drawings to determine scope of work and required contents of estimate
Reviews data to determine and calculate a complete takeoff of scope of work
Maintains files (electronic data) of working documents as back-up for estimate figures, including current (accurate) information on prices from suppliers
Requests quotations from suppliers and subcontractors. Conducts a thorough evaluation of incoming scopes of work and conducts an cost analysis on quotations
Ensure 3 bids are collected for any sub or vendor packages
Considers and analyzes risk factors. Provides risk feedback to Bid Manager
Provide market based intelligence about competitors to Bid Manager - as collected through bidding process
Provides feedback, duration, and logic review of bid schedules
Attends pre-bid meetings
Conduct onsite analysis of pre-existing conditions when applicable
Performs post-bid analysis and participates in bid review meetings with owner or owner's representatives, when required
Participates in project hand-off meetings
Investigates value engineering options
Sr. Estimators are to mentor, train and grow estimators for future company growth
ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
Undergraduate Degree or equivalent technical training and/or experience
2-10 years estimating experience
Advanced math and computer skills
3-5 years construction field experience desirable
Ability to conceptualize the project schedule from project start through completion, including sequencing/phasing of work
Knowledge of assigned discipline, estimating techniques and cost control
Ability to interpret computerized cost data and systems
