Position Title: Senior High Voltage Engineer
Department: Engineering, Procurement, & Construction
Location: Priority is given to candidates who can work in a flexible hybrid model from one of our offices in San Francisco, New York, Austin, or Guelph (Canada). In addition, monthly travel may be required to either a project site or our headquarters in Austin.
Position Summary
Recurrent Energy's Senior High Voltage Engineer role demands a combination of expert-level HV design knowledge with a experienced command of project management. Your responsibilities span from initiating HV designs and supervising equipment procurement to interfacing with utilities and driving technical dialogue. Equipped with an Electrical Engineering background and 5 years of industry experience, your role is pivotal in harmonizing technical rigor with strategic project execution in the renewable energy sector.
Responsibilities
HV Design & Integration:
Act as the Recurrent Energy HV subject matter expert.
Review and coordinate detailed HV design packages from EPCs.
Support discussions with utilities regarding HV integration.
Manage the creation and review of preliminary HV designs.
Support the preparation of technical documentation.
Technical Procurement of HV Equipment:
Identify potential bidders for HV equipment procurement.
Evaluate and onboard new suppliers based on capability, quality, and cost-effectiveness.
Draft datasheets and detailed requirement specifications for HV equipment.
Evaluate supplier proposals to ensure alignment with technical and budgetary requirements.
Conduct design reviews, including the sub-component ratings of HV equipment.
Manage the Request For Information (RFI) process with suppliers.
Review and provide comments on supplier drawings and designs.
Monitor the manufacturing process, ensuring adherence to quality and timeline commitments.
Manage change orders, ensuring timely communication and agreement with suppliers.
Manage and oversee storage conditions to ensure equipment longevity and performance.
General Duties:
Collaborate with cross-functional teams.
Stay updated on technological advancements in high voltage engineering and solar integration.
Promote a culture of continuous improvement.
Financial & Organizational Scope
Collectively responsible for project budgets of $100 - 500 million
Communicate and influence cross-functionally within Recurrent Energy.
Responsible for consultant scopes and associated costs
Reporting Relationship & Interactions
Reports to Engineering Manager, Project Engineering
Works cross functionally and collaboratively with all departments
Manages consultant work orders to ensure scope, schedule, quality and coordination requirements are met.
Interfaces with third-party engineering service providers, and subcontractors.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Extensive knowledge of IEEE, UL and other governing standards for HV and substation equipment
Proven experience in liaising with utilities, EPCs, and equipment vendors
Knowledge of engineering economics and design optimization.

Requirements
A minimum of a bachelor's degree in an Engineering or Technical field
5-7 years progressive experience in Electrical, High Voltage and Substation Engineering
Professional Engineer or equivalent regulatory body license is a plus
