Essential Job Functions: Web Development & Project Planning (35%)
The primary responsibility of this role is web development, which includes planning and executing website projects by configuring and customizing content management systems such as Drupal and WordPress. This involves participating in stakeholder meetings to define needs, creating project plans, and writing flexible and efficient code to ensure the site remains scalable, performant, and aligned with best practices. Collaboration with team members and stakeholders is essential to building and enhancing the institution's digital presence, ensuring that new features and updates align with institutional goals and user needs.
Ongoing Maintenance & Upgrades (25%)
This role is dedicated to maintaining and improving the existing website infrastructure. This includes monitoring Drupal and WordPress for issues, deprecations, security updates, and rewriting outdated or inefficient code to align with the latest needs, as well as optimizing existing structures to keep the platform running efficiently. Regular site cleanup, organization, and feature evaluations help maintain a stable and effective content management system. Ensuring that content management systems and their dependencies remain up-to-date prevents technical debt and enhances long-term maintainability.
Site Performance & Optimization (15%)
Another key focus of this role is identifying and addressing performance issues to improve site speed and user experience. This involves analyzing site performance, refining development strategies, optimizing queries and overhead, and ensuring smooth integrations between systems, while refining current needs and deprecating old features and options as needs evolve. Regular audits and proactive performance improvements contribute to a fast, responsive user experience..
Project & Team Collaboration (15%)
This role will support the team's content editors and publishers by enhancing and optimizing content management workflows, implementing new features, and providing training and guidance on best practices and web accessibility. Maintain, advise, and oversee other college web initiatives, and facilitate knowledge-sharing across teams. Supervise student workers and assist with other duties as needed.
Managing & Monitoring External Systems + Documentation (10%)
The role oversees external services supporting the institution's website, including search platforms, analytics, backups, and cloud hosting. It ensures integrations function optimally, adapts to platform changes, and maintains reliability. Proactive monitoring aligns systems with evolving standards, while thorough documentation supports continuity, troubleshooting, and future development.
Minimum Qualifications:
An Associate's Degree or equivalent of knowledge and experience.
3-4+ years of experience in planning and architecting complex website functionality with web programming languages such as PHP as well as with web application frameworks. Strong familiarity and experience working with open- source content management systems such as Drupal and WordPress.
3-4+ years of experience with scripts, libraries, and languages such as HTML5, SCSS/CSS, JavaScript, jQuery, and Ajax.
Experience with RESTful APIs utilizing structured data formats such as JSON and XML and JavaScript frameworks such as Node, Vue, React, and/or Angular, etc.
Experience with version control software and build/package managers such as Git, NPM, Gulp, Composer, and Webpack.
Experience in configuring and administering LAMP server environments (Linux, Apache/Nginx, MySQL, PHP) as well as a working knowledge of SSL/TLS, caching systems, and general performance tuning principles.
Experience and expertise in writing SQL queries to extract and/or modify data from databases such as MySQL.

Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in computer science or a technology-related curriculum. Strong

Manage technical SEO, make recommendations, implement schema and technical changes, stay up-to-date on best practices.
Experience in setting up and configuring quality assurance and analysis services, including but not limited to traffic analytics, performance tuning, and load testing.
Experience with Python and other scripting languages for administrative purposes.
