Job Description:

The Audio Video Lead Technician is responsible for the use, care, and maintenance of Stages' AV equipment and infrastructure inside the theaters and building-wide. The AV Lead Tech will oversee the load-in, load-out, production usage, maintenance, and storage of all equipment and infrastructure elements that make up the audio and video program for Stages. The AV Lead Tech also manages a safe and productive work environment in the theater venues, production shops, and storage areas for AV.

What you'll do at Stages

Work with the Production Manager & Technical Director to coordinate AV install schedules for seasonal productions

Work with the Production Manager & Technical Director to schedule overhire labor needs and supervise labor for AV

Manage the installation, patch, and programming of each sound plot

Lead training for AV technicians as needed

Create and update paperwork that supports the sound design

Plot, System Riser, I/O

Primary support for designers and the implementation of designs

Identify any challenges with sound and video designs, work with the Technical Director on solutions

Make approved purchases needed to support the venue and designs; manage and report expenses

Prepare for technical rehearsals; load-in tech tables, comm systems, and video monitoring

Attend all technical rehearsals and previews in order to:

Provide primary support to Sound and Video Designers

Provide support for Stage Managers

Oversee the use of the AV systems

Run or train technicians to run all events that require AV support

Maintain designs throughout production runs per production reports. Including but not limited to monitoring contracted A1 live mixes

Manage the technical systems through technical rehearsals, and performances

Create policies to train run crews on start-up and shut-down procedures

Create backups from technical rehearsals through to the close of shows

Strike AV equipment following the close of every production, and restore to defaults

Document and report AV inventories to Production Manager

Support company-wide meetings, events, and rentals with the set-up and breakdown of AV equipment as needed

Maintain all AV equipment and storage

Observe and comply with all company safety policies, follow safe work practice, and maintain a safe work environment

Keep tools and work areas in a clean and orderly manner

Uphold the Stages brand, culture, and EDI values in your day-to-day workflow

Additional duties as assigned


To excel in this job, you'll need

3-5 years experience in technical production

Sound and video design experience in theatrical applications

Programming experience with analog and digital sound consoles

Experience with analog and digital audio signal routing, video routing and mapping, electricity, soldering, and circuitry

Experience with Qlab, CAD, Google and Microsoft Suites

Valid driver's license and the ability to safely operate motor vehicles

Ability to work independently to lift and carry objects weighing up to 40 pounds routinely, 80 pounds frequently, and 100 pounds occasionally; climb and maintain balance on ladders and scaffolding

Ability to work in diverse environmental conditions

Ability to physically negotiate the hazards of a worksite, e.g.; uneven surfaces, floor openings, heights, construction debris, and poor lighting

Must be punctual and dependable

Passion for Stages' work and desire to play a vital role during a transformational period of growth

Flexibility to work a varying schedule including days, some evenings, and occasional weekends

Degree in Technical Production
