Verifies the location of and marks utility systems for current and future construction projects or when utility systems information is requested.
Prepares and maintains damage prevention permits and maps for contracted locators and verify completion, distributes permits as required.
Performs leak detection and water quality testing; utilizes necessary tools to assist in sub-surface locating of valves, manholes and access panels.
Utilizes survey-grade GPS equipment, sUAS, lasers, infra-red camera and digital cameras to map utility systems as repair and replacement work is occurring as well as during new construction projects.
Sketches and documents all changes to each campus utility using photos, GPS points, laser measurements and contractor redlines.
Works with regional campuses in the collection and documentation of base map and utilities updates when requested.
Ensures the completion of work assignments in a safe, efficient, and cost effective manner within specified time frames.
Complies with all safety policies and University and departmental policies, procedures, and guidelines.
Responds to emergency situations immediately and works quickly to correct issues.
Maintains availability for overtime work and/or on-call duties as assigned.
Performs other utility-related work as needed or assigned.

EDUCATION
Required
High school diploma or equivalent (such as HSED or GED)
WORK EXPERIENCE
Required
5 years of experience in utility damage prevention
Preferred
Some experience with Indiana 811 Dig Safe permitting process
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES
Required
Valid driver's license with the ability to be insured by Indiana University upon date of hire
Locator certification upon date of hire
Damage Prevention Competency certification upon date of hire

This role regularly requires the ability to effectively communicate. This role frequently requires the ability to handle equipment. This role frequently requires the ability to remain stationary and ascend/descend ladders/stairs. This role requires the ability to move objects weighing up to 25 pounds. The role requires the ability to detect items in close proximity as well as far away; discern between colors; detect objects in peripheral space of self; discern items in detail; and to have good depth perception.
